OUR STORY
Fallbrooks Finest's Grapes
Several years ago, our journey towards becoming wine grape growers began. Our exploration led us to a beautiful area in North San Diego County called Fallbrook! Fallbrook has been transitioning from avocado and citrus production to wine grapes for about two decades. As other growers have discovered, we found the Fallbrook climate, soil and topography ideal for grapes to thrive.
We did considerable research into building a vineyard, including speaking to local wineries, joining wine growing and wine making association, and studying expert publications. Additionally, we enrolled in a college level Viticulture course that was informative and enjoyable. Lastly, we contracted Viticulture consultants to determine design specifics for our vineyard.
After some research, we chose Fallbrook Winery, the largest and most well established winery in Fallbrook, to assist us with installation of our vineyard. We then talked extensively with Novavine in Sonoma Valley about root stock and scion selection. Again, with the assistance of a consultant, we selected the 1103P Root Stock with the Clone #8 Scion. We contracted with Novavine for a custom grafting and then we were on our way!
As we designed our vineyard’s grading, drainage, irrigation, spacing, materials and components, it became obvious that installation would become a daunting task. After some research, we chose Fallbrook Winery, the largest and most well established winery in Fallbrook, to assist us with installation or our vineyard. Fallbrook Winery aided us in the completion of our vineyard’s layout, trellis construction, irrigation, fertigation and planting of our vines.
Giardino Vineyards joins a rising trend of new vineyards in the Fallbrook area. We are indeed excited about the years ahead of grape growing, harvesting, and selling our grapes for wine production.
